Celestial Church of Christ, Ileri-Oluwa Parish, formerly known as Houston Parish was established on the Eighteen Day of April Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Two. Prior to this date, Elder Kunle Damien had been advocating for the establishment of a parish in Houston in order to have a place of worship and to reach out do unknown Celestians.

To start the church then was impossible for us due to lack of time as a result of school and work. But, because God intended for the church to be our dream came true on the 18th of April 1982. During the Naming Ceremony of Elder Gregory Oloyede’s daughter, a message came through Snr Wolider Anu Ogunfeyimi hhrhc\\rho carried the New Born Baby that God had descended the church in Houston that day and we should start immediately.

Because Snr. Wolider Anu Ogunfeyimi was a bachelor then, we started having service in his apartment. Due to a tight schedule for everyone, our service on Sunday commenced from 11 :OOp.m till 2:00a,m, Neighbors around the apartment began to complain of noise. As a result of this, we moved the place of worship to Elder Martin Oloyede’s apartment.

Due to other factors beyond our control, we moved location to Elder Gregory Oloyede’s apartment. Some years later, Elder Dele and Elder Tony Aidomiyi arrived from Nigeria; both were bachelors and shared an apartment as room mates at Beechnut. We moved the service location to their apartment and this became a permanent place until 1984 when a message came from God through Assistant Leader Solomon Adelaja that we should begin to conduct service on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. instead of our usual time of 11 :00 p.m.

For this reason, we had to find a place of worship because we could not have service in the day time at the apartment due to the fact that Sutana’ s, could not be worn in Broad day light in those days. An Evangelist by the name Amos visited us from Nigeria and encourages member to start wearing cur Sutanas in public without fear and the good lord took control.

In 1984, a permanent place to serve the lord was secured at Javis Street. It was a ”run down’ building without heater or air conditioner. During winter period, it was ”Hell” to worship due to serious cold, These never stop us because membership was increasing.

In 1985, the church moved its location to a bigger and better place of warship at Cleawood Street. In 1987, due to some misunderstanding among members, the church split into three. Our first leader Evangelist Anu Ogunfeyimi started his own church Salvation Parish: Evangelist James Akindude went to establish Stafford Parish, while Houston Parish remained as the Mother Parish. The church continues to grow with new members despite renovation and expansion our place of worship was getting too small.

We worshiped at our new site in clearwood from 1985 to 1994. while a new ant bigger building was purchased unter the leadership Evangelist Martin Oloyede. The asking price for the building was $285,000.00. The church raised $48,000.00 through very generous donations from members and friends of the church. Thank God almighty the church continues to grow from strength to strength. Despite Devil war’s which God fought ant won for us at all times. Ileri-Oluwa Parish, our new name through spiritual injunctions, is truly a parish of promise. In 1987 after evangelist Anu started his church, Assistant Leader Sclomon Adelaja was appointed Leader. He reigned from 1987 to 1992 Evangelist Siji Adelegan became the leader and reigned from 1992 to 1993. Evangelist Martin Oloyede was appointed Leader in February of 1993 and reigned until February of 1995. Senior Evangelist Oriere led the church from February 1995 to December 1995. Seven Elder was appointed to be the administrators of the church from December 1995 to May 1996 while the church searched for a new leader. In May 1996, Evangelist Richard Uhumagbo was appointed to the leadership post and reigned from May 1996 through December 1997. December 1997 HISIE Kayode Adams was appointed to the leadership post as a leader in charge then by February 1997 he became the shepherd of the church through May 2004.

The church is currently under the leadership of Superior Evangelist Friday Thomas. Our prayer is that god continue to be with his church ant bless those that have contributed towards the progress of the church. Long live Celestial Church of Christ. Ileri-Oiuwa Parish, Long life Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide. Amen
